Spring Series: Leaders - Stand in MY Council to Receive the Anointing

Jeremiah is facing a situation. The spiritual leaders were supposedly “receiving” words for the people of Israel, from God. The words spoken seemed to minister to the people, yet, God asked the question, “How long will this continue in the hearts of these lying prophets, who prophesy the delusions of their own minds?”( Jer. 23:26). The anointing that came with the position of leadership was not bathed in the presence of God, it came from man. How many times have we sought out the approval of others before coming to God? How many times have we bought a book in hopes to receive the power of the “now”, rather than coming before God who will cover us in His power? How many times have we bought into others secrets to attract people to us, instead of going to the One who is all knowing and everywhere present? This is not to bring shame, but a challenge. My dear brothers and sisters who are followers of Christ, when we stand in the council of God first, I believe God will surprise you in ways that you will never imagine. We need leaders who have answers for this time in history. No gimmicks. No candy coated promises. We need answers and leadership that influence a generation, not cater to the whims of people.

When a leader stands in the council of God, they will be given an answer that will go against the grain of our culture. It will go against the common sense of man. It will be an anointing that will impact their surroundings. When we use the term “anointed” we are referring to one who has been set apart or dedicated to serve God with all their heart. It means to be divinely designated or chosen for a purpose.

In Jeremiah 23:28-29, God makes a promise to those who do walk into His council:

“Let the prophet who has a dream tell his dream, but let the one who has my word speak it faithfully. For what has straw to do with grain?” declares the LORD. “Is not my word like fire,” declares the LORD, “and like a hammer that breaks a rock in pieces?”
When we receive the anointing from God, His words will go before us! The anointing is irrevocable!

In the case of the lying prophets, they sought their own knowledge and wisdom. The people that followed them were looking for answers, and instead of going to God first they listened to these prophets and were led astray. Their trust in God was substituted for trust in man. As a body of believers we do not need to search for the power “within” to find empowerment. We must stand in the council of God and dig into his Word. For God’s word is never changing and is always true. When we stand in His council God will anoint us to accomplish all that is set before us.

God empowers those he has called for a specific duty.
God empowers those he has given a talent/gift to accomplish a purpose.
God empowers those who have found favor with Him.
God empowers those who are obedient.

Remember the following:

“Have you not known? Have you not heard? The everlasting God, the LORD,
The Creator of the ends of the earth, neither faints nor is weary. His understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the weak, And to those who have no might He increases strength. Even the youths shall faint and be weary, And the young men shall utterly fall, But those who wait on the LORD shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint.”
Isaiah 40:28-31

As a believer in an all-powerful God who seeks to influence my students, my prayer is simple. “Lord use me this day to have a word for those I come in contact with. And if so, may your anointing be on me to achieve the task set before me.”

God will use you to be a beacon in the darkness and a breath of fresh air to those who seek hope. You, my dear friends have an opportunity to reach the masses like no other. Many will say that it is the pastoral teams job to reach people for the glory of Christ. I say it is your job to reach people for the glory of Christ and what better tool to use than the one God has given to you…your business! It is time to stand in the council of the Lord and receive your anointing. An anointing that will empower you to reach your fullest potential! An anointing that will flow to others!
