I Get It!

We read in Scripture that God is a jealous God.   At first that seems arrogant and even some will go as far as saying that it makes God vulnerable to sin.   We are continued to be told not to attain jealousy in our everyday life.   Yet we read in Exodus 20:4-5, “You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God …”   Moses prior to him being taken up to heaven, warns the Hebrew children, “Be careful not to forget the covenant of the Lord your God that he made with you; do not make for yourselves an idol in the form of anything the Lord your God has forbidden. For the Lord your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God .” (Deuteronomy 4:23-24).   Even Paul in 1 Corinthians 10:21-22 states, “You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons too; you cannot have a part in both the Lord’s table and the table of

2014 Spring Series: Discipleship is more than a fad…it’s a battle cry! Part 2

A friend of mine who is a pastor posted the following on his Facebook page:   In my opinion the most tragic and dangerous belief system today is not atheism. Rather it is what  Sociologist Christian Smith calls " moral therapeutic deism ". It's follower's believe the following five things... 1. "A god exists who created and ordered the world and watches over human life on earth." 2. "God wants people to be good, nice, and fair to each other, as taught in the Bible and by most world religions." 3. "The central goal of life is to be happy and to feel good about oneself." 4. "God does not need to be particularly involved in one's life except when God is needed to resolve problem." 5. "Good people go to heaven when they die."     Sadly, while many people call this belief system "Christianity", it looks absolutely nothing like what the  God of the Bible actually teaches. A god w
