Do Not Lose Your Curiosity!

This past week I was at the gym getting my work out done on the treadmill. As I was viewing the televisions before me, a caption came across that grabbed my attention….China Unveils 5yr plan for space exploration. Megan Kelly from Fox News was going to interview former astronaut Gene Cerman to get his thoughts on this news alert. Gene Cerman was commander of Apollo 17 and the last man to touch the surface of the moon in December of 1972. What other great person would have insight, than the last person to set foot on the moon, concerning this new announcment? When asked the question concerning the United States decline interest into space exploration, I heard the wisdom and the pain of an elder speak to a younger generation.

“I made those steps 40 years ago. We knocked on the door of the future, it was for the following generations to walk through it…and who knows where they would be now and what would it mean to the future, not only for our country, but also for mankind. But we have just back down and quit….”

Here was a gentleman of a generation who put men on the moon. When we look at the technology back then, we shake our heads and can’t believe what they accomplished, especially seeing our technology today. Yet, what we have today, it stems from that generation that dreamed to do the impossible! In the middle of his answer he said something that made me come home and watch the interview again!

“Curiosity is the essence of human existence. Who are we? Where did we come from? Where are we going? How long are we going to be here? It gives us a platform in which we can look to the future and answer the questions we want to know.”
For thousands of years man has looked to the stars, and has wondered what it would be like to go to the heavens. It was curiosity that made man look to the stars and wonder what was out there. I could see Job looking to the night sky while saying the following,

“He speaks to the sun and it does not shine; he seals off the light of the stars. He alone stretches out the heavens and treads on the waves of the sea. He is the Maker of the Bear and Orion, the Pleiades and the constellations of the south. He performs wonders that cannot be fathomed, miracles that cannot be counted.” Job 9:7-10

I can see David sitting out in the fields looking up and singing the following song…

“When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them? You have made them[b] a little lower than the angels and crowned them[d] with glory and honor. You made them rulers over the works of your hands; you put everything under their feet: all flocks and herds, and the animals of the wild, the birds in the sky, and the fish in the sea, all that swim the paths of the seas. LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!” Psalm 8:3-9

Throughout history curiosity has pushed man to do the unthinkable! Scientist Arthur C. Clark said, “In order to make great discoveries, you have to go beyond the possible into the realm of the impossible. Great scientist of the past centuries had to go into the realm of the impossible to find great discoveries.” It was curiosity that put the Wright brothers into flight. It was curiosity that pushed Henry Ford. It was curiosity that allowed Walt Disney to see “the happiest place on earth” out of an orange orchard. And it was curiosity that propelled man not space!

This new year do not lose your curiosity to do the unthinkable! Whether it by your relationship with the Lord, business or life, do not stop being curious! When obstacles come and we question ourselves, do not cower back, but press forward, always curious of what can happen if you never give up! May this year be filled with moments of curiosity! Moments of God’s favor and lessons that propels you to greatness!

“As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it. You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and hills will burst into song before you, and all the trees of the field will clap their hands. Instead of the thorn bush will grow the juniper, and instead of briers the myrtle will grow. This will be for the LORD’s renown, for an everlasting sign, that will endure forever.” Isaiah 55:9-13

His call. His gift to you. Your purpose. Irrevocable!

Happy New Year!
