Summer Series Face to Face with God Week 5: A Faithful God

In the Book of Deuteronomy we see the last month of Moses life and the events prior to the Hebrews entering the Promised Land. Even though the Book of Exodus ends with a glorious description of God's glory and the special relationship God had with his people I cannot help but to end this study with Moses in the book of Deuteronomy. As you look back at your life, you may be faced with the realization of Moses and how he must of felt standing on top of Mount Nebo (Deut. 34:1-4), viewing the promise land that he had waited to see and experience. As he stood there, knowing that he was leaving this world, I am sure there was time to recollect the memories of his life. He had lived 120 years. From the days he roamed the streets of Egypt as royalty to the tending of sheep in desert. The meeting of his wife to the reunion of his birth brother and sister. 80 years had passed from the time he had encountered the Lord at the burning bush, an event that would change his life forever! Remembering the day of freedom as the people left Egypt. All the necessities of life being meet in the dessert from food to the clothes that never wore out. I can see Moses, like any other man faced with death, tears rolling down his cheeks thanking God for his faithfulness. A life that seemed to have it’s up’s and down’s, but a God who never forgot His promise. After one hundred twenty years of life he now would be in the presence of his faithful God! While his words echoed in the hearts of his people...

"Take to heart all the words I have solemnly declared to you this day, so that you may command your children to obey carefully all the words of this law. They are not just idle words for you—they are your life. By them you will live long in the land you are crossing the Jordan to possess." (Deut. 32:46-47)

.......he died.

As I look back at my life I have seen a God who restored a very sick child to health. A God who continued to show His faithfulness to a teenager boy through signs and wonders. A God who through college showed His faithfulness to a young man as he entered this world with hopes and dreams. A God who proved that in life there is that special someone who was everything I could ask for in a wife. A God who showed me His unconditional love through the birth of my two girls. To the soft words that came that one warm summer evening when my dreams and ambitions seemed all but gone, “I am not done with you yet, it’s just the beginning.”. Each situation I have gone through, whether it be a disaster or uplifting, God has proven Himself to me. No one and I mean no one, can take that away! Its allowing God to be God in our lives, even in the midst of not understanding. Moses did not understand why he was asked by God to lead His people out of bondage, but in the midst of not understanding he allowed God to be God. It was through that trust that Moses experienced God’s faithfulness! For in the midst of not understanding, God’s glory is shown to a world where one looks for the assurance of a living God! “If you fully obey the Lord your God and carefully follow all his commands I give you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations of the earth. All these blessings will come upon you and accompany you if you obey the Lord your God.” Deuteronomy 28:1,2 (One of Moses last message before going up to Mount Nebo). When we step forward in the promises of the Lord, the supernatural will take place in our lives. Which means, God intervines and fulfills his promise through us! Moses: One step forward and he changed history! Moses word to Joshua, the next leader of the Hebrews as they enter the Promised Land...

"Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you."

Gods faithfulness. Just plain awesome! Now take that first step into his promises, and watch what God will do!

His call. His gifts. Your purpose. Irrevocable!
