Acids of Truth

The acids of truth are very much alive today as culture tries to redefine and solve its social problems outside the context of a biblical worldview. I get it…not everybody believes in God or the context of the Bible. I know many believe that truth is based on self and not some ancient manuscript written by some “old” guys. In recent weeks we have once again heard the beat of the drum that cries out to God…”We know more than you! We don’t need you!” So why are followers of Christ surprised when recent events have poured acid on truth? The Bible tells us… “In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.” 2 Corinthians 4:4 We are living in a time where reality that once was based on absolutes is now subjective. Decisions are made based upon the mood, attitude and feelings of man. An example is what we have seen in recent months…

“Fallacies do not cease to be fallacies because they become fashions.” -G K Chesterton In recent weeks we have seen a shift in culture, especially in the church. Whatever “right” is being proclaimed as truth, we have seen an acceptance of once looked-down-upon wrongs as now accepted. Whether it is accepting sexual identity or gender, one must not be surprised when a culture whose foundation is based on self or lack of biblical truth that one comes to the conclusions they have in the last couple of weeks. Please be reminded…our worldviews shape our values and our values shape our behavior. So Christ followers, be encouraged……Right and wrong, that is based upon the Scriptures given to us by God, gives us the foundation to impact our culture, and the answers to its problems. Douglas Groothuis, author of Truth Decay writes, “Only the God of the Scripture provides a source of moral authority and obligation, standards for ethical endeavor, the incentive and power for ch

It seems to me better to get the Book of books for food for your soul, for the strengthening of your faith, and the building up of your character in God, so that all the time you are being changed and made to walk with God. – Smith Wigglesworth As followers of Jesus who profess our faith and the claim that God is all powerful (omniscient)...all-knowing (omniscience)...everywhere present (omnipresent) we must jump into God's word. To be effective followers of Christ in the marketplace, the word of God must be at the tip of our tongues when it seems we are faced with difficult decisions. It is God's Word that must sustain us when it seems hard, and we want to throw in the towel. It must be God's Word that lays the foundation of all ethical decisions made when it comes to serving and leading others. When we ask God to move in our life, three things will happen: 1. A movement towards God's Word... 2. A movement towards Restoration (to bring back in

About a year ago I was talking with a couple who I look up to and respect. The conversation turned to church and a movement that I had heard about, but really never understood or paid attention to it. The conversation got my attention when my friends mentioned a very popular devotional book, entitled, “Jesus Calling” by Sara Young and began to point out the signs of mysticism throughout her book. Why it got my attention? My daughters had received this book a few months earlier as a gift and I remember seeing my daughters read through it. Upon my study my eyes were opened and my ears became sensitive to key words such as, “ancient disciplines”, “experiencing God is of importance”, “I heard the voice of God say to me…”, “disciplines of our church Fathers, Lecto Divino and contemplative prayer. In reading articles concerning the movement, key names such as Henri Nouwen, Thomas Keating and Richard Foster stood out to me. Why? In recent books I have read, t
