From the Classroom: Christ Birth a Hoax?

Its that time of the year when churches bring out the garland and perform big Christmas events in hopes that the masses come in. We begin to see the sermon titles about Christ and the meaning of Christmas. It is also at this time we begin to see the challenge against Christ and his birth. A little over a year ago I was listening to the radio and an evangelist was sharing the Christmas story. This is a story that I have heard a hundred times over, yet this time I listened from a skeptic’s point of view. I will admit, the story sounded crazy! A virgin birth? An angel proclaiming the birth? So I began ask myself the very same questions a skeptic would ask. How can we know that it’s true? Could it be a myth? Did the authors of the Gospels get it wrong? Where’s the proof? How would I answer someone if asked the questions of doubt? I never was challenged as a child, teenager or adult to rethink the possibility that it was a fraud.
