I am reminded of the Sunday as a sixteen year old worshiping in a church in Athens, Greece. It was a small church that meet in a room about twice the size of my classroom.  During the worship I felt such a kinship with my Christian brothers and sisters.  They sang songs I knew from home! As I stood there, it hit me!  Jesus has no boundaries!   These people that I never met had experienced Jesus, just as I did!  Wherever you may call home, we celebrate the main person that brings us all together, Jesus!   However you may say it this Easter, I greet you with...HE IS RISEN!  ¡Ha resucitado!   他 復活了！ Hij is opgestaan ​​!   Il est ressuscité!  Er ist auferstanden!  Ανέστη!  הוא קם לתחייה!   वह बढ़ी है !  Egli è risorto !  المسيح قام !    그는 살아나 있습니다!   Он воскрес!   Vstal je !  Han är uppstånden !  Ngài đã sống lại !   Siya ay risen ! “If the historical basis on which the supposed revelation [the Bible] rested was false, then why should we give any special credence to the ideas resting on that basis?” Can anyone trust a historically false document to be theologically accurate? In veiwing this question it reminded me of the following.... A child and mother are sitting outside and hear the distant thunder.   In curiosity the child ask, “Mother what’s thunder?”   The mother’s response is sincere and confident.   “The god’s are playing!”   She shares with her child an elaborate story where the two laugh and continue their day each coming up with a funny way to explain thunder.   Yet in the context of ancient culture, the story of rain and thunder may have turned into a claim.   If a Canaanite child asked his or her mother “Why do we not hear the thunder and see the rain in the summer?”   The response would be an elaborate story of Baal, the god of rain, becoming prisoner to t...

Life brings us so many situations that sometimes we try to do things on our own.  Instead of letting go, we hold on to them.  We look for refuge through relationships, friends and other means of satisfaction.  Yet God tells us throughout the Scriptures, "Come to me, I will be your refuge." This week begins the final leg to the White House as the Party conventions begin.   I usually do not write about politics, yet this cycle I speak as a watchman.   A watchman was one who stood guard on the tower of the wall surrounding the city.   If the guard saw the enemy coming over the horizon he would call the alarm to warn everyone to grab their arms.   As servants of the Lord we have a responsibility to cry out to a culture, even when we do not want to.   It goes against the norm.   It goes against complacency.   You are ridiculed.   You are called a fanatical or religious wacko.   You are called out of touch.    I do not profess to have some power to see the future.   I do not proclaim to be a psychic!    So take this or leave it!   I write this as one who is taking a step back, looking at culture and asking the Lord, what is going on?  Why has our culture and way of life seem upside down.  I b...
