Business Through the Eyes of Solomon: I Call Her Blessed!

Image
Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her. Proverbs 31:28 Passage to be read: Proverbs 31 As we wrap up this series, lets just recap real quick the lessons learned from Solomon concerning business. One, as a leader Solomon knew that in order to be effective, he needed the gift of wisdom . He was asking for wisdom from above! In other words Solomon was feeling a little overwhelmed and was asking an all knowing God to give him ideas and discernment when it came to being a leader. Two, the word "establish" means...to found, institute, build, or bring into being on a firm or stable basis; to bring about permanently. That means that the dream/vision that God has birthed in you becomes permanent with the counsel of your team! Oh, there will be obstacles. There will be the doubters. There will be the mockers! But you will become unstoppable because of those who you have surrounded yourself with! You will succeed because you planed ahead ! Three, w...

Business Through the Eyes of Solomon: Giving Unconditionally

Image
A gift opens the way for the giver and ushers him into the presence of the great. Proverbs 18:16 Passage to be read: Proverbs 11:24-26 One night I received a phone call from my grandmother. She had been battling cancer for a couple of years so my time and talks with her were precious. This night though was different. A few months before this call I had asked my grandmother for a loan, in which I was making payments. In our conversation that night, my grandmother taught me such an important lesson that exhibited her loving heart. She said, "You do not have to pay off the debt." My response was a sounding NO. Which was met with a stern, "Take the note an tear it up." Once again my response was of resistance. And once again it was meet with an authoritative response, "Tear up the note." Silence.......in that moment I was taken back to grandma's house as a child, where I never left without a little something. Whether it was a snack or a silver coin I n...

Business Through the Eyes of Solomon: What's in a Name?

“The man of integrity walks securely, but the unfaithful are destroyed by their duplicity (“perversity” in the KJV).” Proverbs 11:3 Passages to read: Ecclesiastes 2 – 3; Proverbs 22:1 In the last three weeks we have taken a look at business through the eyes of Solomon. During his first part of his reign there are many lessons we can glean from him as compared to his second half of his reign which included his downfall and eventually the splitting of the kingdom. Here is what we have learned so far about business through the eyes of Solomon: 1. Ask for Godly wisdom (1 Kings 3:5-15) 2. Plan ahead by surrounding yourself with advisors that will help you succeed (Prov. 15:22) 3. Work your plan by never giving up! (Lesson from the vineyard, Prov. 24:30-34) ...and the fourth lesson we can take from Solomon… Integrity . “The man of integrity walks securely, but he who takes crooked paths will be found out.” Prov. 10:9 I just read an article on Bernie Madoff’s sons (Vanity Fai...

Business Through the Eyes of Solomon: Work Your Plan

Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and your plans will succeed. Proverbs 16:3 Passage to be read: Proverbs 24:30-34 It is said that the average life expectancy of a human being is 77 years. Lord willing, that's 28,105 days of life. Today marks the 15,330 days of life for me. 367,920 hours of breathing. 22,204,800 minutes of walking, eating, sleeping, working, vacation, being a husband and daddy. Life! God's greatest gift to us all! It just seems like yesterday, when I was sitting under the camper shell with a neighborhood friend at 5 years of age enjoying a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Roaming around with friends during my teenage years. Attending college and meeting the love of my life. Wedding day. Birth of my daughters. My first job out of college. Ups and downs of life. How time flies! That's why it is so important to live our lives in such away that will impact those that are around us. In the time allotted for us, we need to make it count! Whether it be our chil...

9am and 3pm

9am and 3pm. Two times a day a sacrifice was given at the temple. The priest would sound the shofar (rams horn) so that the people would know that the daily sacrifice was beginning. This sacrifice was for the sins of the people. People would have probably stopped to say a prayer and be reminded of God's forgiving grace. It would also be repeated at 3pm. When we look at the death of Christ, Mark gives us a time frame, "third hour". It was customary to begin the day at 6am, thus placing Christ being nailed to the cross around 9am or "third hour", approximately the same time the first sacrifice was being done at the temple. Christ death was recorded at the "ninth hour" which would have been at 3pm...the same time the final sacrifice at the temple was being done! While man was laying a perfect lamb on the altar to be sacrificed for the sins of the people, God was laying his Son on the "altar" as a sacrifice for you and me, at the same time . Ma...

Business Through the Eyes of Solomon: Plan Ahead

All hard work brings a profit, but mere talk leads to poverty. Proverbs 14:23 Passage to be read: 1 Kings 4; Proverbs 15:22, 11:14, 19:20 and 27 A little over three years ago we took a memorable family vacation to Disney World and Disney Cruise to the Bahamas. Towards the end of our trip, while walking the ship, Angie and I began talking about the legacy of Walt Disney. How did it come to this? Mickey...Snow White...Amusement parks...Television....movies...now ships? How did it start? The words of Walt, “If you can dream it, you can do it. Always remember that this whole thing was started with a dream and a mouse.”...became real to us! We left wanting more! We were fans of Disney before our trip, but after our experience in Florida we were sold! A matter of fact we took another Disney Cruise a year and half later to the Mexican Rivera for a week! We love Disney! I came back and began to read Walt Disney's biography. I wanted to know what made this guy become successful. As you re...

The Uniquness of the Bible

u'nique:" different from all others"; having no like or equal. One question always comes up in class. It is usually the first question when we begin...Why the Bible? What makes the Bible different from other books? Can the Bible be trusted? And my answer is always the same..YES! I must admit, when I first started teaching high school Bible at Modesto Christian twelve years ago, I was more of a student, than teacher. Students were asking me questions that really challenged my faith. For the first time in my walk with the Lord I had to give an answer to the "why". Why do you believe the way you do Mr. Limon? Why are you so sure that Jesus is who he says he is? Why is the Bible to be taken literally? Why?...Why?.... You get the picture. I knew the "Sunday School" answers, yet did not know how to back them up. So, study I did!!! In putting curriculum together, I came across "A Ready Defense" by Josh McDowell. The following notes is based on my...
